"I make portraits in the wider sense of the word. My work deals with identity and nonverbal communication. I'm especially interested in the discrepancy between appearances and deeper located emotions. In ancient Greek, 'persona-lity' has a dramatic meaning: the 'mask'. We wear it wherever we go as we present ourselves to ourselves and to others. Our everyday presentation and who we 'really' are, is profoundly entangled and thus raises the question: where ends the 'mask' and where starts the 'real'?" MvM
